American Airlines flight 850, scheduled to arrive at 7:32 pm, landed nearly two hours later than expected due to delays at Miami International Airport.

Upon arrival at NMIA, the plane reportedly experienced a hard landing and veered off the runway. It is unclear if anyone was injured in the incident; however, the aeroplane is said to have sustained extensive damage to the engine and landing lights.

According to local press the incident left the aircraft with damage to its engines, landing lights and other components. The extent of any injuries to passengers remains unclear at this time.

In a brief statement on Friday morning, the airline said that “American Airlines flight 850 from Miami (MIA) to Kingston, Jamaica (KIN) briefly exited the runway after landing. The aircraft taxied to the gate under its own power, and customers deplaned normally. Safety is our top priority, and we apologize to our customers for their experience.”

While the airline did not disclose why the plane veered off the runway, a passenger, speaking anonymously to the press, reported that the flight experienced significant turbulence due to weather conditions.

Both the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority and American Airlines Response Teams are said to be on the scene of the incident.
